Advocating for a Better Future for the LGBTQ+ Community and Those Living With HIV
Our Government Affairs team works to advance LGBTQ+ and social justice initiatives, such as reducing healthcare disparities, and advocates for optimal HIV/AIDS and healthcare policy, programs, funding, and legislation.
We work at all levels of government—local, county, state, and federal—meeting and speaking with elected officials, administrators, and other decision makers to ensure that people living with and at risk of acquiring HIV have access to the best possible information, prevention education, care, treatment and medications.
Government Affairs operates unilaterally and within a broad range of coalitions—from the California Alliance of HIV Advocates to AIDS United in Washington, D.C., and with organizations addressing healthcare more broadly, such as the California Primary Care Association and the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County. We support initiatives such as the Ryan White Program, prevention programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Housing Opportunities for People Living With AIDS, the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, Medicaid, Medicare, and healthcare reform.
We also advocate for strengthening and expanding the nation’s network of federally qualified health centers, such as our Gleicher/Chen Health Center and Long Beach Health Center, which provide primary healthcare, behavioral health, dental care, and prevention and education services to low-income LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV locally.
Stay in the loop!
We will send you alerts with updates on issues and policies affecting the LGBT and/or HIV communities and urge you to call or e-mail your representatives about key political activity at the local, state, and federal levels.
