APLA Health Celebrates the Life of Larry Kramer

May 27, 2020 – In response to the passing of Larry Kramer, pioneering AIDS activist, APLA Health has issued the following statement.

“APLA Health celebrates the life of playwright, author, and trailblazing activist Larry Kramer. Larry was one of the loudest voices at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, shouting at anyone who would listen and everyone who needed to hear the new truth: A plague was going to devastate an entire generation of gay men unless we all worked together to stop it. When the AIDS epidemic struck, he helped found the Gay Men’s Health Crisis in New York, and later ACT-UP. He led the charge against government inaction and along with a cadre of other activists forced the federal government to respond. He taught an entire generation of gay people that we owed it to ourselves and our communities to speak up. AIDS service organizations, the gay community and people living with and at risk of HIV all over the world are indebted to Larry Kramer and will continue to deliver his message even though he is gone. Our thoughts are with Larry’s family and friends during this time.”
